One young Jew named Daniel was among the people taken away from Israel to Babylon. By God's grace Daniel became highly regarded in the Babylonian Empire. With God's help Daniel did the impossible and interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar dream.
Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.
But more importantly Daniel was a great prophet and loved God with all his heart, soul, body and mind. Daniel gave God the glory when he said:
"Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever,
For wisdom and power belong to Him.
"It is He who changes the times and the epochs;
He removes kings and establishes kings;
He gives wisdom to wise men
And knowledge to men of understanding.
"It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things;
He knows what is in the darkness,
And the light dwells with Him.
"To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise,
For You have given me wisdom and power;..*
Daniel was right when he said wisdom and power belong to God. He removes kings and establishes kings. During Daniel's lifetime King Nebuchadnezzar died and his son became king. Then the Medes and Persians attacked Babylon and took control. Now Daniel served under a new ruler called King Darius. King Darius was very impressed with Daniel and had plans to promote him over the entire kingdom. Three different kings have now sought Daniel for his wisdom and power. Is Daniel some kind of super human? Daniel knows God has given him wisdom and power. The world and its kings walk in darkness, but Daniel knows "the light dwells with Him." The good news is Jesus and the Word of God can light our path.
Special Note: The Old Testament will refer to the descendents of Jacob who were slaves in Egypt as: My people, Hebrews, Sons of Israel, Children of Israel, Israel, Israelites and Jews.
