Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD, as a boy wearing a linen ephod. And his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, "May the LORD give you children from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD." And they went to their own home. The LORD visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew before the LORD...Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail. All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD. *
"Samuel grew and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fail." What does it mean "none of his words fail"? That means that as a prophet of God, what Samuel said, was true and came to pass. This was only possible because the Lord was with him. Samuel was very careful to tell the people what God directed him to say even if they may not like it. Soon God would direct Samuel to anoint the first King of Israel. This King would end up being rebellious to God and Samuel was not afraid to tell the King how sinful he was. God could count on Samuel to tell the truth even if it hurt. So people listened to Samuel for guidance from God. The Lord wants us all to be bold before other people and in love tell them the truth from God's word. Like Samuel the good news is: God is with us.
Special Note: The Old Testament will refer to the descendents of Jacob who were slaves in Egypt as: My people, Hebrews, Sons of Israel, Children of Israel, Israel, Israelites and Jews.
