Samuel And King Saul
In the hill country of Ephraim there was a dear woman who loved God and was married to a man called Elkanah. Hannah was crying because she had no children.
Then Elkanah her husband said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"...She, greatly distressed, prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly. She made a vow and said, "O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head."...It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the LORD."
Hannah loved Samuel and raised him to be a fine boy then she brought him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh to serve God as promised. She told Eli the high priest:
"For this boy I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him. "So I have also dedicated him to the LORD; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.*
Hannah loved her boy Samuel very much. Eventually Hannah brought to Eli the High Priest her son Samuel to serve God. Samuel was a gift from God to Hannah and in return Hannah offered her boy back to God. In Hannah's act of giving to God the nation of Israel was blessed with Samuel who grew up to be one of the greatest judges and prophets Israel ever had. Has God given you anything? Think of all that God has given you. God's greatest gift to you is His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for your sins so that you may live. Now what can you give to God? Hannah gave the most precious possession she had which was her son Samuel. What can you give to God? Give yourself to God and the world will be blessed with your life. That's a very important part of the good news!
