Moses led the Sons of Israel (the Hebrews) out of Egypt just as God had instructed him. Moses and all the people saw God's awesome power travel with them:
Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said, "The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt." Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea;..The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.*
So God led them on a longer journey during which He was going to mold them into a powerful people and nation. At the same time back in Egypt, Pharaoh's heart grew hard again, and his people were missing their slaves so Pharaoh gathered his army together to go and get the Hebrew slaves back. God is all powerful and He knew Pharaoh's thoughts, so God has a plan to teach the Egyptians that He alone is the one true God. The Hebrews arrived at the Red Sea and looked behind them and saw the Egyptian army coming after them. They were scared out of their wits.
But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. "The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent." *
Hundreds of years later these Hebrew slaves were settled into the land God promised them and they had one of the most important kings and men of faith who ever ruled a nation. His name was David. King David wrote:
the LORD does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the LORD'S and He will give you into our hands.*
The good news is we have a powerful God that can save us with out the need of battle weapons. Thegood news is, when you are frightened out of your wits, remember "the battle is the Lord's" and "The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent".
Special Note: The Old Testament will refer to the descendents of Jacob who were slaves in Egypt as: My people, Hebrews, Sons of Israel, Children of Israel, Israel, Israelites and Jews..
Exodus 13:17-18,21 14:13-14, 1 Samuel 17:47 (NASB)
