Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.*
Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.
Humble means to be modest or meek in spirit or manner: not proud or bold. God was sending one of the most humble men on the face of the earth to confront one of the most proud men (Pharaoh). God told Moses and Arron to tell Pharaoh:
Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
God told Moses:
"But I will harden Pharaoh's heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt."When Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments."The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst."*
God is about to humble one of the proudest men on earth (Pharaoh) who thinks of himself as a god. God is about to judge one of the strongest nations on earth (Egypt) with signs and wonders and every other nation will look on and be amazed. God will show the world that He is the one true God. Now through all of this whose side would you rather be on; Humble Moses and enslaved children of Israel or proud Pharaoh and the strong nation of Egypt? This struggle took place thousands of years ago in Egypt, but there is a struggle going on today between men and God. Whose side are you on?
...clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,..*
Special Note: The Old Testament will refer to the descendents of Jacob who were slaves in Egypt as: My people, Hebrews, Sons of Israel, Children of Israel, Israel, Israelites and Jews.
