Moses - The Deliverer
In the devotional last week we learned that Moses spent the first forty years in the royal household of Pharaoh living the "good life". Then the next forty years Moses spent in the wilderness as a poor shepherd watching after his father-in-law's boring sheep. Now at eighty years old Moses looks out over the barren rocky landscape and sees something very different. He sees a bush a blaze with fire, but it is not burning up! So Moses turned from watching the sheep to see this awesome sight.
When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." Then He said, "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." He said also, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. "So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey,.. and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt."
Can you imagine how awesome this experience was for Moses. He saw a miracle, a bush a blaze with fire yet all its leaves remained green. Then God's voice spoke to him; the God his mother told him about, the God of his great grandparents; Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God was speaking to Moses and sending him on a mission. Do you realize that this same God wants to live in your life? This same God has a mission for you, like He had a mission for Moses. And this same God wants to send you out to help deliver people from the bondage of sin like Moses. This is all a part of the good news!
All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.*

Special Note: The Old Testament will refer to the descendents of Jacob who were slaves in Egypt as: My people, Hebrews, Sons of Israel, Children of Israel, Israel, Israelites and Jews.
Exodus 3:4-8,10, Matthew 28:18-20 (NASB)
