Moses - Pharaoh's Grandson

Jacob (Israel) and all his sons, daughter and grand children took their belongings and moved down to Egypt to live with Joseph. What a wonderful reunion Israel had with his son Joseph. After many years, Israel died and they took his body back to the Promised Land for burial. Joseph lived for many good years in Egypt. At the end of his life,   Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob." Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, "God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones up from here." So Joseph died at the age of one hundred and ten years; and he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.*   Joseph knew that God would take care of his brothers and their families. Joseph knew that God was the great and powerful deliverer. Do you think Joseph knew how long they would be in Egypt before they went back home to the Promised Land? Joseph knew because he remembered God's promises and he knew that God always keeps His promises. God promised Joseph's great grandfather Abraham, saying:   Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years. "But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out with many possessions..."*   In the next three weeks we will see how our powerful God keeps his promises and makes a nation called Israel. Always remember, God is all powerful and keeps His promises. That is good news! Special Note: The Old Testament will refer to the descendents of Jacob who were slaves in Egypt as: My people, Hebrews, Sons of Israel, Children of Israel, Israel, Israelites and Jews.
