Abraham

Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. "I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her." Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?"*   Later Sarah overheard God's promise and laughed.   And the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, when I am so old?' "Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son."*   "Is anything to difficult for the Lord?" Yet we tend to limit what God can do. Is it because we think God is not capable? Or is He too big and to distant to care about our problems? Is it because we want to take control of our problems and solve them ourselves? Abraham is 99 years old and Sarah is so old that neither one of them can remember a time when they did not have this problem. They both laugh when God tells them they will have a baby. After all, they have tried to have a baby for a long time. But, nothing is too difficult for our powerful God. Now in the end, a year later God joins Abraham and Sarah in the last laugh.   Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me." And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."   The good news is that we can laugh joyfully with God because of the good things He has done. Genesis 17:15-17, 18:11-14 (NASB)
