Abram
Lot chooses the good life. He looked down on the very fertile valley and went where it looked like he could prosper and grow more wealth. As is common, he was not the only one that saw the wealth in the valley. Kings and armies came from a distant land to war against the cities in the valley where Lot lived. They succeeded in defeating the cities and leaving with much treasure and captives. Lot and his family were taken captive and dragged away from the good life they had hoped for.
When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. He divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.*
Abram went out of his way to save his nephew Lot. In today's devotional story we see the courage of Abram as he and his men pursued the enemy. Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If so, then as a Christian there may come a time that you must act with courage against an enemy. What will you do?
Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.*
Depending on the threat and enemy look to God and His Word the Bible for direction. The good news is that He will not fail you or forsake you.
Genesis 14:14-15, Deuteronomy 31:6 (NASB)
