In Capernium, Miriah and Samie finally get the opportunity to visit with Simon Peter and hear of all the wonderful adventures he has been on with Jesus when suddenly they are interrupted:
...those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, "Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?" He said, "Yes."...*
Peter did not have the money with him so he proceeded to go find Jesus. Samie and Miriah went with him. "Can you tell us a story now?" Asked Miriah, still a little irritated that they got interrupted. I am sorry children, but I forgot about this tax and I have got to figure out some way to pay it." Replied Simon Peter. "Did Jesus forget too?" Asked Samie. "We have all been so busy. I wonder if Jesus will let me take this money out of our group savings?" thought Peter out loud as they all hurried off to see Jesus.
Miriah and Samie want a story about miracles and adventures with Jesus. Simon Peter suddenly is concerned with only paying the temple tax. Many times you will be confronted with needs in your life. Simon Peter needed to pay the temple tax. Simon Peter had given of his time to serve and follow Jesus. When we serve God and help and serve others it is like:
a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.*
Isn't that great! God will never forget about your needs. Many times He will help you with your needs in miraculous ways. This shows you how much He loves you and that He knows your needs even before you ask for help.
The good news is that God cares about us and our needs.
