"Look Miriah there is Simon Peter, let's go visit him!" Samie said excitedly. "Simon Peter!" Miriah yelled as she ran into His arms. "It's so good to see you. We've missed you!" "Tell us about the your adventures with Jesus and the miracles He has preformed." Samie said. "Oh my, which one should I tell you about? How about Jesus feeding five thousand people with only two fish and five loaves of bread, or Jesus calming the storm, or Jesus casting 5000 demons out of a man!" Simon Peter replied. "Tell us about them all!" They replied. Simon Peter took a seat to tell them a story, when suddenly they were interrupted.*
...those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, "Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?"
Just when you are about to get a good story you get interrupted. This time it is by tax collectors. They were collecting the temple tax. The money gathered for this tax was to be given to the priest to maintain the temple of God in Jerusalem. The tax was not a lot of money, but it seems as though it caught Simon Peter by surprise. Perhaps Simon Peter was a bit embarrassed. What would he say, and why were they asking him about Jesus' responsibilities? Were they testing Jesus again and too scared to direct the question to Him? Everyone including Miriah and Samie were waiting for Simon Peter to respond.
