Jesus And The Storm
Based on the Bible but not exactly the Bible.
As the ministry of Jesus continues around the Sea of Galilee the crowds grow and grow. At times Jesus finds that the best way to meet new people's needs is to travel by boat from one area of Galilee to another without the hindrance of the crowds. Jesus calls his disciples to join Him as He continues the work of God.
Now when Jesus saw a crowd around Him, He gave orders to depart to the other side of the sea. Then a scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go." Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.*
Jesus' mission on earth was to seek and to save. As He continued to journey and do God's will, He spent many nights alone or with His disciples in uncomfortable living conditions. This was not a pleasant way to live. You will not be able to find Jesus' home here on earth. Because, on earth He was content only in doing God's will, not in building a home for himself. The good news is that Jesus home is in heaven where He has promised to prepare a place for us too.* Jesus wanted to make sure the scribe understood that in following Him your first desires should not be for your comfort here on earth. And it was a fair warning. The Bible never tells us what happened to the scribe. He may have turned away and never followed Jesus. Let's pretend though, that after Jesus' warning that the scribe still wanted to go with Jesus. After all, the scribe experienced a beautiful day with Jesus and it looked like a beautiful evening was coming. So he couldn't miss an opportunity to take a peaceful boat ride with Jesus and the disciples. He heard Jesus' warning but may have jumped into the boat ready for a good time. Are you following Jesus for a good time or following Jesus because you love Him and want to serve God no matter what happens?
Matthew 8: 18-20, John 14:2 (NASB)
