A blind man overheard people talking about him. They were Jesus' disciples. The blind man may have been a bit insulted when the disciples asked Jesus if it was his sin that made him blind. Jesus said that it was not the man's fault. Then he heard Jesus say:
"While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world." When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes, and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing. Therefore the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, "Is not this the one who used to sit and beg?" Others were saying, "This is he," still others were saying, "No, but he is like him." He kept saying, "I am the one." So they were saying to him, "How then were your eyes opened?" He answered, "The man who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash'; so I went away and washed, and I received sight." They said to him, "Where is He?" He said, "I do not know."
The blind man was on a very important mission. He was being sent by the man who said "I am the Light of the World". The blind man had never seen light. He was always in darkness. He believed in Jesus enough to do as Jesus said. Although he was blind Jesus' request was that he take a step of faith and go to the pool of Siloam and wash. Some people passing by the blind man on his mission must have thought: What is that man doing walking through the streets with mud in his eyes? The blind man did not care what other people thought; he was doing what Jesus commanded him to do. He was not going to ask the nearest person he met to give him some water to wash his eyes. No, he was going to follow Jesus' directions and find his way through the busy crowded streets to the pool of Siloam. Jesus may one day ask you to go. Will you be willing to do something unusual even though it may be difficult and other people may wonder what you are doing? The blind man will soon see light for the first time and he will meet the Light of the world. Do you see Jesus as the Light of the world? Is He your Lord?
