Jesus Raises The Widows Son
Based on the Bible but not exactly the Bible.
Yered and Nita lived just outside the city of Nain. Nita lost her husband years ago so she was a single parent raising her only son Yered. Nita was a good mom. Yered grew to be a great help on the farm. Nita could not imagine what she would to without him. Many times after a hard days work they would sit in front of their home and watch the sun go down. They would talk and laugh for hours, sharing each others' hopes and dreams. Once in a while Yered would ask Nita about his dad. Was he a good farmer? Did he have a good since of humor? Why did God let him die at such a young age? Nita could answer most of these questions but she had a hard time with the last one. It was always hard to understand why God would allow death to separate Yered from his dad, and her from her husband. Then suddenly one day the unexplainable happened again. Yered got very sick. So sick that he died. This made Nita cry. She could not stop crying as she saw her only child pass away and leave her. Yered died. Now Nita was alone, separated from her only child and husband.
God loves people. He does not like to see people separated from one another or from Him. He created us to live, not to die.
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth..."*
God wanted us to live and enjoy each other's company and to enjoy His company. Death and separation came when man sinned. Jesus said:
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."*
God loved us so much that He was willing to send His one and only Son so that we would have hope, so that we can all live in heaven with Him someday and never be separated from each other or from God. That is good news!
