Based on the Bible but not exactly the Bible. Simon let Jesus step into his boat then Simon rowed it out a little way from land. Now Jesus could speak to the people without being crowded.
And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat. When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." Simon answered and said, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets. When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them."*
Simon was a good fisherman. He had fished all night, and caught nothing. He had finished cleaning his nets and he was tired. Now Jesus was asking Simon to have faith in Him. To believe that Jesus was more than a good teacher like other rabbis. Simon obeyed Jesus. When Simon did as Jesus requested and cast the nets back into the water it was his first act of faith. Faith and action work together to bring about God's will. Simon caught so many fish that he knew God was in his presence. Jesus showed Simon that He was more than just a good teacher. If Simon had not cast his net into the water, then Simon would not have seen a miracle, he would never have caught so many fish and he would not have known that Jesus was more than a good teacher. The good news is, if you place your faith in Jesus and do as He says then you too will be rewarded.
