Sebrea was only a slave boy, but he never failed his missionary friend and he was a true follower of Jesus Christ. After six months, during which the slave boy was taught to read the Bible and to pray, he was baptized and was given a new name. That is what he wanted, for he felt like a new boy, he had a new heart, he had a new master, so why shouldn't he have a new name? And so when he was baptized he was called Sebrea MacKay after his great missionary friend. Alexander MacKay had no children of his own and the young black youth became as dear to him as a son. Sebrea MacKay became in his own way a missionary. Two years after he became a Christian he led his old master and two of his young men friends to the Lord Jesus. No one in Africa was happier than Sebrea MacKay, who was the first Christian in the great land of Uganda and the first native missionary to his own people.
When you become a Christian things are new.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
The good news is that God wants to make us new creatures. Being baptized is a picture of becoming new. When one is placed down into the water it's a picture of burying the old life, like Jesus Christ was buried in the grave. Then when you are raise up from the water, it's like the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. It reminds people that your old life has been cleansed away by the blood of Jesus and a new life in Him has begun. This new life will never end. This is a picture of what God is doing in your life because you believe Jesus is Lord. What good news that is!
