Mission - Hawaii
Kapiolani the queen of Hawaii was cruel and superstitious before she heard the good news. Then she heard the Gospel and became a real Christian queen. People who had seen her first could not believe she was the same person. She became beautiful and dressed herself neatly and began to help her people. She took the sacred royal relics which the people worshiped from the sacred temple and hid them away in caves where no one could find them. But the people still feared and worshipped Pele who had her home in burning mountain. One day the mountain burned and cast up fire and black smoke and the old priest came down among the people to choose another human sacrifice. Kapiolani met the priest and told him there would be no more offerings made to Pele, and he was angry and the mountain burned and the people were afraid.
When we invite Jesus into our lives He changes us.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Jesus changes us when He lives in us. Some of us change very quickly like Queen Kapiolani and some of us change slowly. Queen Kapiolani saw the old things (the sacred royal relics) and she got rid of them because they were idols and God hates idols. In our lives there are old sinful things and we need to be cast them out of our lives. Then Jesus puts good new things in our lives that make us more like Him. That is good news.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB)
